Education

The Education unit of Road Trauma Support Group NSW aims to raise awareness among young drivers about the profound consequences of road trauma.

Through powerful personal stories shared by individuals who have lost loved ones in road crashes, we strive to educate Year 11 students on the immense responsibility that comes with being behind the wheel.

Our goal is not to instill fear but to foster a deeper understanding of the lifelong impact that a single mistake can have on families, friends, first responders, and the community. By making these stories relatable to students, we hope to inspire them to make safer choices on the road.

The changes we’re working towards

Prevention is paramount. We advocate for the development and implementation of long-term systemic educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of irresponsible road behaviour. This includes mandatory programs upwards from Year 8 in all schools, and improved early driver training and effective campaigns to targeted to high-risk groups.

By fostering a culture of responsibility, accountability and peer pressure, we strive to empower students and their peers to ‘speak up and step in’, to reduce the incidence of road trauma and create safer road environments for all.

I just wanted to write to thank you for organising the seminar last Friday to speak with the year 11 kids about road safety. Our son came home and was deeply affected by the talk that emphasised the impact of speeding and dangerous driving on the people you love. The talk, particularly the personal nature of the story shared by the speaker, was extremely powerful. I can’t help but wonder about how many of our sons’s, or daughter’s, lives have been saved due to the testimony of this man. We are so very thankful that the speaker shared his story and his wisdom with our son. And we are very thankful for you, as a school, for organising it.
